Understanding and Supporting LGBT+ Children & Young People
This training will explore some of the critical issues and challenges experienced by children and young people who are LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and/or Trans) or exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Together we will examine how these issues may impact their mental health and their emotional and social wellbeing.
By the end of the training, participants will have:
- A better understanding and increased knowledge of LGBT+ experiences and lives
- Greater confidence in supporting and being an ally to LGBT+ children and young people
- Knowledge of how to create a more inclusive and safer environment for LGBT+ children and young people.
Benefits and learning outcomes
We will explore:
- Concepts of sexual orientation and gender identity
- Current terminology and language relating to sexual orientation and gender identity
- Common myths and misinformation about LGBT+ identities and people
- How to recognise, challenge and report LGBT+phobic incidents and bullying
- How to improve LGBT+ awareness, inclusion and safety in your organisation
- Relevant legislation and how this applies to an organisation providing services.
The Format
This course is delivered online via ZOOM®.
Live & interactive - Learning takes place through a mix of group activities, presentations, discussions and group work.
The workshop is approximately 3hrs - depending on how involved group members participate and discussions. )
On completion
Everyone who completes the course will receive a Cedar Tree certificate of attendance.
